Moritz Kebschull

Professor Moritz Kebschull Dr. med. dent., Dr. med. dent. habil., MBA, is Chair of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Birmingham, where he heads the Division of Periodontology and Oral Rehabilitation. He is an Honorary Consultant in Periodontics at Birmingham Dental Hospital and has held an adjunct professorship at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine since 2015.

A clinician-scientist by training, he graduated in dentistry from the University of Münster and completed postdoctoral fellowships at Columbia University, New York, under Professor Panos Papapanou, and in Bonn, Germany, under Professor Søren Jepsen. He is a UK Specialist in Periodontics and holds an MBA from ESCP Business School in Paris.

His research lies in the molecular epidemiology of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, linking clinical phenotypes to multi-omics molecular profiles, work for which his group has integrated up to five different -omes from the same samples. He also leads major investigator-initiated randomised trials of periodontal interventions and is a module lead in the NIHR Birmingham Biomedical Research Centre. His work has been recognised with more than ten prizes, including the Miller Prize, the highest award in German dentistry, and the IADR Gies and Socransky Awards.

As a Past-President and the current Deputy Chair of the Workshop Committee of the European Federation of Periodontology, spanning 46 member nations, and senior author of the UK S3-level treatment guidelines for periodontitis, he is a leading figure in the development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in Europe.
